Welcome, DelSheree Gladden.
Your real name and pen name?
-They’re the same for me. I write under my real name, DelSheree Gladden. If I hadn’t gotten married and changed my last name I would have used a pen name since I always thought my maiden name sounded like a line from a bad nursery rhyme. Sheree Shrum is just too rhyme-y.
Please share some of the best memories of your childhood.
-My little sister and I spent a lot of time together as kids, playing everything from dress-up and Barbies to bike riding and building a tree fort (which I fell out of). We weren’t very good builders!
About your education. What career did you plan during your education days?
-I originally went to college for fine arts. I got my Associate’s degree in Fine Arts but switched to Economics when I transferred to a four-year college. We moved before I could finish, and I actually ended up going to school to become a dental hygienist, which is what I do now.
What is your biggest source of inspiration in life?
-My family. My kids are both little smarties and they keep me creative and active. My husband is my biggest supporter. I couldn’t do half of what I do without him.
If you had to live a day of your life as one of the living or dead personality, who would it be and why?
-I would love to live a day as JRR Tolkien. It amazes me that he came up with such a unique story and basically created a whole new genre!
What is your favorite genre and why?
-I love YA fiction. I’ll read just about any subgenre. I know YA has gotten more adult over the years in topics and themes, but I still love the classics and the innocence they have in their story lines. They don’t rely on shocking the reader to keep them interested. They’re just wonderful stories.
When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?
-I started writing as a teenager, but only got serious about it after I got married. The purpose of my writing…that’s a tough question. I guess I want to show readers through my stories that they are capable of so much more than they think. Everyone has the potential to do something amazing.
Your dream destination on Earth?
-Someday I would love to do a tour of Europe and see all the castles and mountains. I think I’d need a whole month!
Your origin of birth and other countries you have visited/ stayed. What best things you liked in these countries around the globe?
-I was born in New Mexico, and I have spent most of my life here. I love this area because of its beauty and the rich cultures in this area. The only other country I have been to is Mexico, but I loved spending time on the beaches there.
Your favorite time of the day?
-Late at night when everything is quiet.
Your zodiac/ sun sign?
-I’m a Gemini, and boy is it an appropriate sign for me. I definitely love learning about new things, consequently, I have way too many hobbies!
Your favorite color and why?
-Orange. It’s bright and happy and grabs people’s attention.
Your favorite book and why?
-Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. I love how complex and intricate the story was.
State your signature line/ tagline/ best quote
-My favorite quote is from Albert Einstein. “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
