DPC Watchdog Violation error restarting Windows 10
I am facing this problem since I upgraded to Windows 10. Windows 8.1 never encountred this error of DPC Watchdog Violation. On Windows 10 I have faced this problem almost 4-5 times in last two months. In fact, I am running Windows 10 in two laptops. One is HP and another is Lenovo. The problem never occured in the Lenovo.
What happens is all of a sudden my touchpad stops responding. Everything comes to a standstill and no key works. I tried caps key to see if there was some life but it didn't respond. And after a minute of so there is an alert on the screen stating DPC Watchdog Violation. Due to this Windows doesn't do anything other than a restart. Your unsaved data goes for a toss.
To aviod this situation you have two options. First one is simpler. Use an external mouse. This you can do straightaway without removing the faulty Synaptics driver. Just disable Synaptics TouchPad by going to your device manager. This will keep your life running smooth without any further disruptions.
Another option is to connect your laptop with an external mouse. Remove the Synaptics Touchpad driver and reboot the system. If you want to remove external mouse, you can. But do it after ensuring that Windows update service has run and installed the updated driver. Check the driver version. It must be 19.0,6.0 or higher. This will ensure your working with Synaptics TouchPad without any further problems.
