Touches of Grace: Philanthropy and Social Involvement in Israel by Haim
Dahan is the author's personal experience that is quite relevant to young
and adolescent children in Israel. That is the reason the author is keen to
share it with them. It is about sad and painful socioeconomic conditions
that create a deep impact in the life of children even after they grow
up. During its 69 years of existence, the country had made tremendous
progress. There are so many startups and technology advancements
happening there that makes the other parts of the world envious. So much
so that the whole world calls Israel as "Startup Nation". But still
poverty and deprivation is a wound on the society that keeps haunting
the whole country now and then. But the same amount of progress could
not happen in the field of education and equality. That is quite a
painful state.
There are huge voids and gaps in the society in Israel that make t one of the countries with huge inequality levels in the western part of the world. In fact, these wide social gaps are causing serious risks to the Jews or Zionism. The self-centric selfish behaviour of the society is not letting it create a sense of social solidarity and responsibility towards the needy and deserving sections of the society. Haim Dahan in Touches of Grace: Philanthropy and Social Involvement in Israel calls Israel a country running away from its social obligations. My views are like this. This is not only the condition of Israel, In fact, it is happening in every country of the world barring one of a few. There are only a few countries that are serious towards this cause. Rest either lack resources, or the will to take initiatives in that direction.
As a matter of fact, there are two parties responsible for the uplift of the needy section of the society. Firstly, it should be on government's top agenda. Secondly, the higher segment of society should take the onus. Like in Touches of Grace by Haim Dahan, the author is able to become a high-tech entrepreneur because of an act of kindness or generosity. In fact, that blow in his life was strong enough to transform him completely. There are seven chapters in this 294 pages book. In fact, all the chapters are magnificent in terms of knowledge and direction. Each chapter has a couple of parts or sub-chapters. The titles of chapters and sub-chapters are quite crisp, hard-hitting and directly indicative of seeking a tremendous improvement in the society to achieve these goals. Like, the chapter 7 indicates that before checking anything else, we need to check ourselves.
Because if a checking mechanism is there, a measuring mechanism automatically evolves out of it. And a strong measuring mechanism is capable to manage any kind of organization. The most important factor of life is that improvement never ends. That is the ending key point in Touches of Grace: Philanthropy and Social Involvement in Israel by Haim Dahan. A continuous craving for improvement is a must for any individual, society, organization, or nation. That will help in lowering the gaps of inequality thus bringing everyone closer to each other. The book talks complete sense and makes it possible to follow it practically.
