April Floyd Author of Unique Inspired By Eddie Floyd

April Floyd is highly inspired by Eddie Floyd

April Floyd’s life changed totally when she met Eddie Floyd Jr.

April Floyd stopped writing until she met her fantastico husband, photographer and scriptwriter Eddie Floyd Jr.

April Floyd is a debut author from St. Louis. Her recently completed novel, Unique, is inspired by her own experience as a mother of three, all with physical or mental disabilities.

Even as a schoolchild, April loved writing assignments.  Her first book, The Look of Love, was finished in 2005 but was destroyed when a storm struck her home while her computer was plugged in.  This was devastating, and she stopped writing altogether until she met her husband, photographer and scriptwriter Eddie Floyd, Jr.  He told her about always backing up her work and showed her several ways to do it, with flash drives, emails, and external hard drives, and encouraged her to write again.

Your real name and pen name?

April D. Floyd

Please share some of the best memories of your childhood
All of my best childhood memories constantly involve me finding joy being around my entire family and holidays.
What career did you plan during your education days?
In middle school, I was  given a writing assignment I was filled with excitement, but I didn’t exploit those emotions and wasted time, money and efforts on careers that didn’t fit me or my role in life. Today, whenever I encounter youth, I make sure I ask them, what do they want to be when they grow up? I encourage them to pay attention to their own unique talents or gifts. I thought nursing would be my career. Soon after trying, I realized that was not it for me, although each career I dabbled in left a positive impact on my life and some is expressed throughout my writings.

What is your biggest source of inspiration in life?
My biggest source of inspiration would be my three children who all suffered from some form of disabilities. Seeing their struggles and their strength to keep going caused me to be strong when times were difficult. I remember looking at them and saying, if they can make it through with a smile, then so can I. That is why I dedicated my first recorded novel to my three children, Malissa, Terry, and Walter Jr.

What hurts you most in this world?
I feel most hurt in the world involve the lack of love for the human race. If we loved ourselves as humans, we wouldn’t hurt each other. We would look at each other as one united family. Children that are disabled would receive the help needed to make their life a little easier. There would be no ethnic or gender divides. There would be no hunger or housing issues and so much more. Loving each other can fix any problem and it’s free, only if all humans could tap into it.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced? How did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I have faced was bringing up my three disabled children with very limited resources. Everything they needed cost more than what I had so I had to find ways to make sure they had what they needed. I overcame it by never giving up and being encouraged by my children.

What is your favorite genre and why?
My favorite genre is a mixed between erotic and horror.

When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?
I started writing children stories in 1995 on the boxed computers with the floppy disk. I completed my first novel in 2005. All of my writings were destroyed when a storm struck my home while my computer was plugged in. At that time, I had no guidance or ideas for my writings. It was a hobby for me. After the storm, I was devastated, and I stopped writing altogether until I met my husband, photographer and scriptwriter Eddie Floyd, Jr.  He told me to back up my work and showed me several ways to do it with flash drives, emails, and external hard drives.  He encouraged me to write again. In 2008 my novel, UNIQUE began developing. Six years later in February of 2014, this inspiring story entitled, Unique was published and now completely ready for purchase.

Which of your work has been published so far? Would you like to share a synopsis of your work?

What genres you write in and why?
My main genre is erotic, but never is it just erotic. My writings cross genres while never really losing the erotic entity.

What keeps you motivating towards writing?
My motivation is my knowing that I have all these stories to tell and It’s a must to get them out onto the printed page.

How do you plan, schedule and monitor your writing commitments?
Life is complex so time management when writing can be difficult, but I remember if I take five minutes a day and write, It’s like walking miles and that one step at a time you will eventually get to your destination. Five minutes a day of writing will eventually get you to a completed project.

What are your future plans?
I have many plans for my future starting with promoting my new novel, Unique as well as gathering a fan base that’s eager to read another segment of Unique, entitled, “A Unique Change”. I am looking forward to my new book/movie trailer that’s in progress. I look forward to seeing Unique becoming a blockbuster hit one day. My plans also consist of completing more novels.

What is generally your preference in reading – a paper book or ebook? And why?
I know this new era likes eBooks, but for me, nothing feels better than holding my book and turning its pages.

What four top most things you take care of while writing a book?
My top four things are… 1) Commitment- It takes commitment to complete a novel because everything gets in the way. 2) Proper devices- such as flash drives, emails, and external hard drives are necessary. It really hurts when you lose a masterpiece. 3) Eliminate distractions- Most writers go away from their lives to finish a writing project. This is because your thoughts must not be interrupted during the creative process. 4) Networking while writing- I say keeping in touch with your fans is essential. It also allows you time to take a break from your project and gives less chance of having writer’s block.

How much real life goes into a fiction writing?
Most fiction writers allow room for real life to enter into the fictional world. How much, is usually a non-thought-out process. We are like molded clay. Everything that happens in a person’s life has molded them into who they are and these same life experiences find their way into the writer’s novel somehow.

Is high level of imagination important to have for an Author?
Yes, a high level of imagination is important and I believe it’s a gift that one possesses as a child.

Your favorite celebrity and why?
My favorite celebrity would be Eddie Floyd, and it’s not just because he’s my father-in-law. It’s because he has awesome qualities that a younger person like myself can learn from. I marvel at his strength and knowledge. He’s an overall kind and keep-it-real type of person, which I can appreciate. He has awesome talent that he has given the world to enjoy. Through his example, I can see what years of dedicated work can do. My favorite celebrity is Eddie Floyd.

The last thing to do before sleep?
